Membership fees cover listing and selling tools. Separately, Scripttopia charges a 5% marketplace transaction fee on each completed sale, so writers keep 95%. Buyers never need a paid membership and pay no Scripttopia fee. Rights and licence terms are set by the writer and shown to the buyer before payment.

Marketplace transaction fee

Scripttopia charges a 5% fee on every completed sale.

The 5% fee applies to all paid works sold through Scripttopia — books, poetry, manuscripts, screenplays, scripts, and other eligible written works. You keep 95%.
It is separate from your monthly membership (Writer or Pro Writer) and separate from payment processing fees, which are always shown to you as their own line on each sale.
It is calculated on the work's price only — never on sales tax, refunded amounts, or any other non-product charge.
The 30-day free trial waives membership charges, not the 5% transaction fee. Founding Writers keep their locked-in membership rate and also pay the standard 5% fee.
Example: a $19.99 sale means $1.00 to Scripttopia and $18.99 paid out to you.

Questions

Fees, memberships, and payouts

Does the 5% fee replace my membership fee?: No. Writer and Pro Writer memberships are billed monthly for listing and selling tools. The 5% marketplace transaction fee is charged separately, only when a work actually sells.
Who pays the payment processing fee?: Payment processing fees are reported separately on every sale and absorbed by Scripttopia out of its own fee, so they are not deducted a second time from your proceeds.
Do buyers pay an extra Scripttopia fee?: No. Buyers pay the price the writer set, plus any sales tax or VAT calculated at checkout. Scripttopia adds no buyer fees, and the full amount is shown before payment.
Am I charged the 5% fee during the 30-day free trial?: The 30-day free trial removes membership charges only. If a work sells during the trial, the standard 5% marketplace transaction fee still applies.
Do Founding Writers pay the 5% fee?: Yes. Founding Writers keep their permanent badge and locked-in introductory membership rate, but every completed sale is still subject to the standard 5% marketplace transaction fee.
What happens to the fee if a sale is refunded?: When a refund is issued, the buyer's payment is returned and the writer's share of that sale is reversed proportionally. Scripttopia's 5% fee is never charged on refunded amounts.
